Next week, the New York Yankees will officially make Aaron Boone their new manager!  Here’s what you should know about Aaron Boone.

  • He has never coached before. Right now he is an analyst on ESPN.
  • Many members of his family have either coached or played in Major League Baseball. His brother Bret was an all-star and won four gold gloves. His father Bob used to be a catcher and a manager. Even his grandfather Ray was a player in the major leagues.
  • Between 1997 and 2009, Aaron Boone played on six teams and even made the all-star team once.
  • His most famous hit was in Game 7 of the American League Championship against the Boston Red Sox. He hit a game winning home run in the 11th inning to send the Yankees to the World Series.
  • He lost his job in 2004 when he tore his knee in the offseason playing basketball. That led to the Yankees picking up Alex Rodriguez to play 3rd base and Aaron’s Yankee playing career was over.

Aaron Boone is taking over a very good team. The Yankees won 91 games last year and they were only one game away from the World Series.  Next season, Aaron Boone will be coaching Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird and Masahiro Tanaka.  He is a lucky man!
