This has been a weird NBA season so far. Most teams have played between 15 and 20 games already. Some of the best teams from the last few years are now some of the worst teams in the league.  Here are some of the worst teams this season in the NBA and why they are doing so bad.

  • Dallas Mavericks (3-14): Since the 2000-2001 season the Mavericks have only missed the playoffs two times. One of the reasons the Mavericks are bad is because their star player, Dirk Nowitzki, is getting old. This year Dirk is only averaging 10 points a game compared to almost 22 points per game for his career.
  • Atlanta Hawks (3-13): The Atlanta Hawks have made the playoffs 10 years in a row. And three seasons ago they had the best record in the Eastern Conference and were the number one seed. This season the Atlanta hawks are bad because they recently lost Paul Millsap, Tim Hardaway, Jr., Al Horford, Dwight Howard and Kyle Korver. So, they lost some of their best players and replaced them with bad players.
  • Chicago Bulls (3-10): The Chicago Bulls made the playoffs last year and almost beat the top seeded Boston Celtics in the first round. But this year the team is very different. In the offseason they traded their best player, Jimmy Butler, and they got very little in return and they also got rid of Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo.
  • Los Angeles Clippers (5-10): The Clippers have won at least 50 games in each of the past five years and have not been lower than a 4th seed in the Western Conference. But this season the Clippers are playing without Chris Paul, JJ Redick and Jamal Crawford. That’s why they are so bad now.

It must be really hard to stay on top for a long time. I hope my Denver Nuggets don’t get rid of their best players.
