Get ready Bleacher Boy fans!  This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to……

JULIUS BAKER!!!   AKA…”KID FLASH”

Julius is 11 years old and is a 5th grader at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Elementary School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.   Born in Sacramento, California, this superstar athlete brings his football game to the next level here on the East Coast.  Check this out…

Kid Flash takes his skills to the field with the PALMER PANTHERS JV and Varsity teams AND Julius is on the 14U US NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM!  You heard me right!  Watch KID FLASH and his team take the field  at AT&T Stadium on 1/12/2018 on ESPN at the International Bowl IV.

MIND. BLOWN.

This Football and Track star has already received many invitations and taken home countless awards in 2017.  Some include the 2017 OD Player Development Camp Performance Award, 2017 Dmaxx All American Game invitation, the 2017 D2 Athletics Battle of the Bridges II NY vs NJ invitation, the 2017 Notre Dame CYO Track and Field 100M  GOLD (twice!) and the 400M SILVER, the 2017 OD Elite Camp invitation and the 2017 OD Camp MVP award.   Julius also received a 2017 FBU Top Gun invitation and the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Academy invitation in Canton, Ohio.  Did we mention he is only 11?

The highlight of Julius’ career came with a 70 yard kick off return and a 60 yard punt return for touchdowns during his 2016 season.  Nice!  When Julius first started training for football, his Dad would put on NFL films of the Top 10 Wide Receivers of the 2000’s to watch after every session.  NFL star Randy Moss came in at #2 (even though he thinks he should have been #1) but he is still Julius’ FAVORITE ATHLETE.  He is impressed with Moss because nobody can catch him in the open field with his huge strides and also that he can go over the top on anybody for his signature catch “GET MOSS’D”.

We asked Julius what playing sports means to him.  We were really impressed with his answer.  He said that he has the “passion to play the game” of football.  Julius said, “I understand that sports is a privilege that not everyone has.  I understand sports can give me an opportunity to further my education with the possibility of one day being my job.”  WOW.  Sports as an opportunity for the future.  We like the way you think!

We love where sports has taken you, Julius.  The Bleacher Boys agree you definitely deserve to be Athlete of the Week.  Good Luck to you and your teams the rest of the season.  We look forward to following your career.  Congratulations and Welcome the Huddle.
