Giants Camp Football

Hello sportsfans! This is Ashton Yacker, guest writer for The Bleacher Boys. I am 9 years old, live in NYC and am a huge Giants fan. I’ve gone to just about every game since I was 5 years old. I’ve seen a lot of great wins in my lifetime, but lately I’ve seen too many bad losses, like the one this past Sunday which was just despicable. However I realized something important – all hope is not lost, we have Davis Webb sitting on the bench and he could be the key to the future of the Giants. He is ready to play and we need him get him onto that field.

I think that Eli is a very good quarterback. He has won 2 Super Bowls and has a huge contract, so Davis Webb does not compare well to Eli if we are just looking at the stats. However there are several valid reasons why the Giants should seriously consider giving him some real playing time.

First of all, let’s face it, the season is over for the Giants. They are 0-5. Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, Sterling Shepard, and Dwayne Harris were all hurt in this week’s game, and at least 2 of them are probably out for the season. Also, Eli is at the end of his career and at some point somebody is going to have to fill his shoes and start to lead this team back to victory. Davis Webb can do just that – he backed up a top ten draft pick for a year at Texas Tech which means he’s had time to learn and study the game of football. Now he needs the opportunity to showcase what he learned but he can’t do that without getting on the field. If Davis Webb is going to be our starter and our leader, then he’s going to have to learn by playing, not watching. Only by playing in actual games this season will he get to know all his teammates better which will greatly help our chances next season. And let’s not forget, he’s got the talent we need and he proved that to us when he lead the Giants to an awesome victory (against the Patriots!) with an 80 yard drive in 30 seconds in one of the preseason games!

Davis Webb should be our starter and that will give us something positive to think about this season. It is going to be a very long season if Webb is on the sidelines. However if Coach McAdoo gives Webb the start that he deserves and needs to be a great quarterback, it might be the first step to rebuilding the Giants.
