NBA free agency started July 1st and that’s really exciting because that’s when teams can sign new players and also when a lot of trades happen! This year there were a few really big trades. Here are the ones you should know about:

All Star guard Chris Paul was traded from the LA Clippers to the Houston Rockets.  In return, the Clippers got 2 guards, a center, a few other players and a 2018 first round draft pick. This is a great trade for Houston because Chris Paul will team up really well with James Harden.

Paul George was traded from the Indiana Pacers to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. George is a 4 time All Star and he’ll play on the team with league MVP Russell Westbrook.  That will be a hard pair to beat! George has one year left on his contract and then he wants to play for his hometown LA Lakers.

Jimmy Butler was traded from the Chicago Bulls to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the number 7 pick in the draft. This was a great trade for Minnesota because they didn’t really give up too much to get one the NBA’s best players.

Ricky Rubio was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Utah Jazz for a 2018 first round draft pick. I think that’s a good trade for the Timberwolves because getting a young new player is better than keeping Rubio, who I think is past his prime.

Brook Lopez was traded from the Nets to the Lakers for D’Angelo Russell. That was a good trade for the Nets because they needed a good point guard and Russell is a really good point guard and he’s young.

This is going to be an exciting season to be a basketball fan! I can’t wait for it to start.
