GET READY BLEACHER BOY FANS! This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to…

Ryan Forman!! Ryan is a fifth grader at Maugham Elementary School in Tenafly who is passionate about tennis.  He first became interested at 3 years old but got more serious about the sport when at 8 he joined a more intense program at Tenafly Racquet Club. Ryan is on the CourtSense tennis team there and plays teams from all over New Jersey. To prepare, he plays 5 times a week. Some of his lessons are group lessons where he does fitness, drills, and match play and some are private. This year his team came in 1st place in their division.

Ryan had a strong season this year with a singles record of 15-4. One of his toughest losses was against another strong player who made a bad call (yes youth tennis requires kids make their own calls) in a key point in the match. This shifted the match for Ryan, and he lost. Tennis is a mental game because you’re out on your own. After that disappointing loss, Ryan worked very hard on his mental game and wanted a rematch desperately. He got the chance and only let up 1 point in the entire match! He won 4-0 and felt extremely good about himself.

Ryan is thankful to have such skilled and supportive coaches. The coolest thing he has gotten to do since training at CourtSense is meeting pro tennis player Novak Djokovic, taking a selfie with him, and watching him play up close. Ryan is motivated by both Djokovic’s play and positive attitude. Other than tennis, Ryan loves to play flag football, baseball, and basketball. Congratulations Ryan and welcome to the huddle!!
