Tenafly Basketball: Spotlight on 4th Grade Girls Travel

Updated: March 27, 2017

It has come to the Bleacher Boys’ attention that Tenafly has another winning girls’ basketball team.  Meet Tenafly’s 4th grade girls, Army division, travel team.  They recently came out on top against the best 4th grade teams in Bergen and Hudson Counties.  These are ten athletes who play with one heart.  The Tigers started the year off 2-3.  Instead of giving up, they rose to the occasion by playing together, staying loose, having fun, and going after the ball in a hyper-aggressive fashion both on offense and defense.  This led to the girls making the playoffs as the #4 seeded team.

The Tigers beat a dominant Paramus Broncos team in the first round, 19-10.  Winning brought tears of joy for the girls, but the real test was about to come in the finals.  The Tigers drew the mighty Secaucus team.  The game was on home turf, at the back gym of TMS, and a few of the opposing coaches came out to cheer on these underdogs.  Secaucus was bigger in size but not in heart.  Each girl played her part perfectly.  Adar Serok locked down their star point guard, Jayleen Nunez ran the show with poise at point guard, and Juliet Schwartz scored an impressive 12 points.  Ruby Shultz, Charley Levine, and Jordan Yanowitz were strong on defense and passing.  Lara Kraus played with the heart of a champion while Alex Kim, Jordan Gaitman, and Emily Roglieri were major contributors to this team’s hard fought victory.  The game was a nail biter, but in the end, the Tigers won the day, 20-19.

Congratulations Tenafly Tigers 4th grade Army travel team.  Your coaches, Jimmy Schwartz and Mitch Levine, families, and community are so proud of your hard work and determination.  We’ll be watching you!
