GET READY BLEACHER BOY FANS! This week’s Athlete of the Week goes to…

Jake Bender!!  Jake is a 5th grader from Manalapan, NJ with a strong passion for ice hockey.  He plays in the squirts travel division for the Jersey Shore Wildcats.  During hockey season, if you are looking for Jake chances are you can find him at the rink since he practices twice a week and has games on Saturdays and Sundays.  When he isn’t there, he is practicing at home either outdoors or in the basement.  Jake taught himself to skate when he was six years old.

Jake is currently playing his third season for the Wildcats.  You can call him a playmaker.  He handles his center position with control and is always put in for power plays when the opposing team is down players due to a penalty.  On the flip side, Jake spends no time in the penalty box.  Just this past weekend, Jake achieved a hat trick scoring three goals in just ten minutes.  So far this season, in league games Jake has logged 15 goals and 16 assists.  Jake keeps improving his skills not only through team practice but in off-ice training as well.  He is dedicated to his team and sport.

Jake loves playing NHL on his xbox.  His favorite team is the New Jersey Devils and his favorite player is Brent Burns because he has a really hard shot.  Jake catches NHL game highlights every morning before school.  The Bleacher Boys agree you definitely deserve to be Athlete of the Week!  Congratulations and welcome to the huddle!
